FAO Schwarz, the iconic toy store, is no longer owned by Target. In 2009, Target sold FAO Schwarz to the parent company of Toys “R” Us. Toys “R” Us then sold FAO Schwarz to ThreeSixty Group in 2018. ThreeSixty Group is a Hong Kong-based company that owns and operates several toy stores, including the UK-based Hamleys.
FAO Schwarz has been in business for over 150 years.
The store is best known for its large selection of high-end toys, as well as its in-store animatronic animals and life-sized Barbie dolls. The store has been featured in several movies, including “Big” and “Home Alone 2.”
While Target no longer owns FAO Schwarz, the store still has a strong presence in the US. In 2018, FAO Schwarz opened a new flagship store in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. The store is currently owned by ThreeSixty Group, a Hong Kong-based company that also owns the UK-based toy store chain Hamleys.
