What is TJ Maxx known for?

TJ Maxx is known for its off-price retail model, which sells designer brands and luxury fashions at prices that are generally 20% to 60% below department store prices. The company operates more than 1,000 TJ Maxx stores in the United States, as well as Canada and Europe. In addition to its namesake TJ Maxx stores, the company also operates HomeGoods, Sierra Trading Post, and Marshalls.

TJ Maxx was founded in 1976 by Bernard Cammarata, who served as the company’s CEO until 2014. Cammarata named the company after his two favorite places to shop for bargains, T.J. Mulligan’s surplus store in Worcester, Massachusetts and Maxima, a discount department store chain in England.

TJ Maxx is headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts and employs more than 200,000 people worldwide. The company is a subsidiary of TJX Companies, which also owns Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Sierra Trading Post.
