The home improvement retailer Lowe’s is owned by Lowe’s Companies, Inc. The company is headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina and was founded in 1946 by Lucius Smith Lowe.
Today, Lowe’s Companies, Inc. is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: LOW) and is a member of the S&P 500 index. As of March 2018, the company operated 2,370 stores in the United States and Canada and employed approximately 285,000 people.
In addition to its flagship Lowe’s brand stores, Lowe’s Companies, Inc. also operates regional home improvement brands including Orchard Supply Hardware and Living Spaces furniture stores. The company also has a minority stake in Sherwin-Williams paint stores.
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. is one of the largest home improvement retailers in North America and as of 2019 it was the second largest hardware chain in the United States after Home Depot.
