Why did McDonald’s discontinue special sauce?

McDonald’s discontinued its special sauce in 2015 in favor of “select sauce.” Special sauce was seen as a key selling point for McDonald’s, and the company reportedly spent over $60 million annually on the sauce.

However, special sauce sales have reportedly dropped by nearly 50% since 2014.

One possible reason for the sauce’s decline could be that additives used in the sauce – such as artificial flavors and colors – have been linked to health concerns, such as obesity and cancer. Additionally, some customers may no longer find the sauce necessary due to the availability of similar sauces from other restaurants.
