The name “Ace” was derived from the first letter of the three founders’ last names: Richard Hesse, Oscar Fisher, and Frank Cahill.
In 1931, the three founders purchased a warehouse in Chicago to centralize their operations. They began using the Ace name on all their stores in 1933. By the 1940s, Ace had expanded to include stores in every US state.
