Why did McDonald’s discontinue the Southwest salad?

In 2007, McDonald’s discontinued the Southwest salad, a popular menu item. The salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. McDonald’s cited that the salad was not selling well. There are many possible reasons why the salad may not have been selling well.

One reason could be that people did not like the taste of the diced tomatoes or the cheese. Another reason could be that people did not feel like the salad was filling. McDonald’s may have also discontinued the Southwest salad because it was not cost effective to make. The ingredients for the salad cost a lot of money, and McDonald’s may not have been able to make a profit off of it.
