Lidl does not currently offer electric scooters for purchase. However, the company has been testing a fleet of 50 electric scooters in Germany since October 2019, and is planning to expand the program to other countries in Europe.
The German retailer is partnering with e-scooter sharing service Tier to provide the scooters, which can be rented for €1 (about $1.10) per 30 minutes. Riders must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
Lidl’s electric scooters are part of the company’s broader push to become more sustainable and reduce its environmental impact. In addition to the scooter program, Lidl has also installed solar panels on many of its stores and distribution centers, and offers customers the option to pay for their groceries with reusable bags.
