How long does a USPS package stay in transit?

When a package is sent through the United States Postal Service (USPS), it is handled according to the Transit Time Guidelines (TTG). TTG states that a package should be delivered to a recipient within 2-3 business days after it is sent.

However, due to the vagaries of the mail system, there are times when a package will take longer to get to its destination. In extreme cases, a package can take up to 7 days to get to its destination.
