Why did McDonald’s stop selling glass cups?

McDonald’s stopped selling glass cUPS in 1993. The company cited health concerns, such as the risk of breakage and injury from cUPS that could be thrown around and become missiles.

The company also cited the damage that cUPS could do to property, and the potential for lawsuits. In 1998, McDonald’s began using paper cUPS instead of glass.
