Why did McDonald’s get rid of Hamburglar?

McDonald’s eliminated the Hamburglar from its menus in the early 1990s as part of a larger effort to modernize its food offerings. At the time, the company was facing competition from rivals such as Burger King and Wendy’s that were offering more contemporary menu items.

The Hamburglar was a relatively old character, having been introduced in the 1950s, and McDonald’s felt that it was time for the character to retire.
